How would you like to own ALL of the designs struck for circulation in 1816. All the denominations: ie half cents, cents, 3c pieces, 2 cent pieces, half dimes, 3c pieces, nickels, dimes, quarters, halves, 20c pieces, halves, dollars, and all the denominations of gold coins? The 1816 large cent was the ONLY coin struck by our fledgling Mint in 1816! Like the planchets used for the earlier Classic Head cents, the Mint imported barrels of blank copper planchets cut to size for the new design large cents and the copper was less than pure. Like with many of the half cent planchets, impurities in the copper produced large darker areas in the coins, as this coin also has. Can’t see it clearly in the photo, but under fluorescen light it shows clearly. It is not considered a defect or error, as experienced early copper collectors will tell you. This one should not last long! Contact me if you have any questions Due to the recent US Supreme Court’s S Dakota vs Wayfair decision, all states seem to jumping on the bandwagon. Additional states will be added to this list at a later date. The item “1816 Coronet Head large Cent PCGS MS-63 Brown, great lustre & NOT Randall Hoard” is in sale since Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
